The pandemic has forced Indian Lake Elementary School to cancel its annual Halloween Parade this year, but students will still have the chance to celebrate the spooky season through a number of generous donations.
Dozens of local businesses that normally send representatives in costume to pass out goodies at the parade in the ILES gym, instead donated all kinds of fun items for the students to enjoy.
Businesses brought in boxes of candy, coloring books, slime, flashlights and more. Indian Lake High School Key Club members bagged up the items recently. Each student will receive a well-stocked goodie bag at the Halloween parties on Friday.
“We are overwhelmed by the support from our local businesses,” ILES Co-Principal Molly Hall said. “We’re so thankful that they still wanted to participate in our Halloween activities, even though we could not hold the parade.”
COVID-19 restrictions limit visitors to Indian Lake School buildings to essential personnel only. That means parents are not able to attend this year’s classroom Halloween parties, but Hall said teachers are planning games, crafts, packaged snacks and fun.
Students in grades one through four may bring costumes to school that they can put on themselves over their regular clothes. Parties will take place Friday in the afternoon before the conclusion of school.
