Huntsville Village Council members discussed at a recent meeting the village’s summertime garage sale and clean-up days, and whether it is financially feasible to continue the clean-up days.
The village-wide garage sale is slated for the weekend of June 18, 19 and 20. The garage sale permit application fee will be waived for that time period.
Relating to the clean-up days, Mayor Joe Hurley said that the last clean-up cost the village approximately $7,000. He said considering the village’s aging equipment, those funds could be used for something else. Members also noted that people outside the village limits take their items in and place them in the village’s Dumpster.
The clean-up days decision was tabled for further discussion.
Mayor Hurley said that he received a letter from the Logan County Engineer’s Office showing costs for 2021 for township roadside mowing, roadside spraying and sign inspections.
Roadside mowing will be $41 per lane mile per pass, roadside spraying will be $55 per lane mile and sign inspection cost was $300 estimate for townships only. Villages need to call for pricing.
Huntsville utilized the county office’s service last year to mow and spray the hill at the pit.
The mayor also noted he has contacted the Logan County Health District regarding a condemned house on Napoleon Street.
Council members voted on payment arrangements for emergency medical services as follows: the village will offer a 10 percent cash discount for anyone willing to make a one-time pay in full. Payment arrangements for EMS services will be at Robinaugh EMS’ discretion.
The decision was based on previous discussions that indicated individual finances will determine how much they can pay. Leaving Robinaugh to determine payment arrangements is best since they work with individuals directly.
Upon receiving approval from the solicitor, the council will pass a resolution and send a copy to Robinaugh EMS for their records.
Councilman Mike Hyder was asked to check into a possible grant to help the village purchase a smaller tractor, but he told the council that he needed more information such as cost, size, additional equipment etc.
Fiscal Officer Susan Yelton also explained that she has been working with Paul Mann from the Office of Business and Management to get the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Securities Act Fund report finished.
The council meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.
