Howard W. Ludewig, 87, of Sidney and formerly of Lakeview, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016, in Dorothy Love Nursing Home, Sidney.
He was born in Mingo Junction on July 2, 1929, a son of the late Harry Carl Ludewig and Anna Stephens Ludewig. He is also preceded in death by a son, David M. Ludewig; a brother, Harry W. Ludewig; and two sisters, Dorothy A. Ludewig Maguschak and Mary C. Ludewig Gordon.
On July 23, 1952, he married the former Nancy Yoders in Mingo Junction, where they lived until 1995 when he and Nancy moved to Lakeview. Nancy survives in Sidney.
He is also survived by three children, Diana Jean Buchanan, Howard W. (Patricia A. Sogan) Ludewig and Pamela K. (William) Ludewig Clark; nine grandchildren; six great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
Howard enjoyed working for the church. He and his wife also enjoyed spending two weeks each summer fishing the French River in Ontario, Canada, and making a yearly family trip to Assateague Island, Md., where he enjoyed cooking with dutch ovens. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and working in his shop.
He worked as a test specialist of high voltage equipment for American Electric Power, retiring in 1989.
Howard was a former member of the Mingo Junction Presbyterian Church, where he was active in the construction of the new church building along McLister Avenue and served as an elder and clerk of session. He had also belonged to the Starkdale Presbyterian Church in Winterville.
He was ordained an elder in the Presbyterian Church, USA, in 1957; he served as moderator of the Steubenville Presbytery for a one-year term in 1970; and he was currently a member of the Belle Center United Presbyterian Church, where he served as ruling elder and clerk of session.
Rev. Kevin Lawler officiates a funeral service at noon Saturday, Oct. 22, in the Belle Center United Presbyterian Church, 202 Walnut St., Belle Center, where visitation is one hour to the service.
