Amelia Earhart, played by Indian Lake Middle School student Grace Pequignot, delivers her speech during the fifth-grade advanced language arts’ recent Living Wax Museum project, while Sacagawea, played by Madalene Gutierrez, talks to attendees in the background. Instructor Cammie Honaker said the students each selected a famous person, read a biography, then wrote a short speech based on what they learned. The students then dressed up as the famous person and spread out around the ILMS cafeteria. When parents, students or teachers walked by, they would deliver their speech and then freeze. Famous Americans featured included flag-maker Betsy Ross, race car driver Jeff Gordon, astronaut Mae Jemison, outdoor performing sure-shot Annie Oakley and comic book creator Stan Lee.
