Bellefontaine’s high school wrestling team finished ninth out of 22 teams at the Canal Winchester Invitational on Saturday.
The Chiefs had five wrestlers place in the top six.
Pickerington North held off Washington Court House 153-147 to win the team title. Host Canal Winchester was third with 138 points and Groveport-Madison was fourth with 126.5 points. Bellefontaine had 96 points.
Garrett Gross led the Chiefs by winning the 195-pound weight class. He went 4-0 with four pins in four minutes or less. Zayne Reed placed third at 170 pounds and finished 4-1 on the day, while Tucker Newland placed fourth at 132 pounds with a 3-2 record.
Teammates Chelsea Horsley (106) and Noah Yoesting (145) both reached the fifth-place match, but were unable to compete because of the five- match limit rule.
Also for the Chiefs, Blayden Hurley (152) went 2-2 and Makayla Young (106) and Ryan Stuhlemmer (182) both won matches.
Bellefontaine is back on the mat Saturday for the Central Buckeye Conference meet at Urbana.
