Green Hills Community residents have already beaten a path to the first phase of a 3/4-mile walking track even though it is not “officially” open.

“They’re excited about it,” Director of Advancement Nita Wilkinson said. “There has been a lot of interest from the residents and from people outside Green Hills.”
Thus far 3⁄8-mile has been paved and crews are awaiting benches to install at frequent rest areas along the way.
“There will be 10 rest stops when the entire project is complete,” Ms. Wilkinson said. “These will be places to rest or just sit and reflect. We’ll also put out inspirational messages for the residents.”
Green Hills raised $81,793 from corporate and individual donations and in grants. Mrs. Wilkinson hopes to land more grant money to complete the path yet this year. If not, it should be completed next year.
The path and accompanying fitness park are designed for elderly users.
Friday, Green Hills will officially open the path to its residents and the public.
Some residents have been on the path and they enjoy it.
Opaline Watkins said she plans to be on it often year-round.
“As long as I can get through, I’ll be out here,” she said.
