Adam W. Houchins, 28, of 175 N. Main St., Lakeview, was charged Saturday with a felony count of theft from a protected class after deputies received a report regarding a theft from his grandfather, Robert Houchins, 80.
Friday, deputies were contacted by Robert Houchins’ daughter, who stated she is his power of attorney because her father has dementia. She said there had been several unauthorized transactions totaling $435 on her father’s account that had been sent through Facebook.
Adam was named as a suspect and deputies interviewed him Saturday. He told deputies that his grandfather had given him permission to use his debit card, but would not answer questions regarding his grandfather’s medical condition.
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Pair charged with domestic violence
Teka L. Hoberty, 51, and her husband, James A. Hoberty, 58, both of 11379 Kiowa Path, Lakeview, each were charged with domestic violence related to an incident Friday at their residence.
Deputies were dispatched to their address about 10:45 p.m. regarding a domestic dispute with reported assault.
When deputies arrived, Mrs. Hoberty was being treated by Indian Lake EMS for a minor injury to her arm. She stated her husband had hit her in the arm with a stool during a confrontation.
Deputies also spoke with Mr. Hoberty, who said his wife had punched him in the face during the argument, which caused his dentures to break. He showed deputies several fragmented pieces of his dentures and dried blood outlining his lips. Mr. Hoberty also had sustained a small cut to his forehead and had a cut on his knuckles. He denied treatment from EMS on the scene.
Mrs. Hoberty was found to be the primary aggressor in the incident and she was placed under arrest and lodged in the jail. Mr. Hoberty was issued a summons for domestic violence.
Teen reported missing
Deputies received a runaway juvenile report about 9:30 p.m. Sunday from the family of Tyler W. Ridenour, 16, of 202 E. Buckeye St., Belle Center.
His grandmother said Tyler had left the residence about 7 p.m. when he told her he was going for a walk. She said he was carrying a backpack and she later noticed that he had taken his video gaming system and games with him.
Deputies patrolled the Belle Center area and did not locate the teen. His grandmother suspects he might be in the Piqua area. Deputies also spoke with his probation officer in Miami County.
He is described as 5 foot 6 inches tall, 150 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 592-5731.
Teen cited after crashing into cornfield
Jesse J. LeValley, 17, of DeGraff, was cited for failure to control related to a non-injury crash that occurred at 6:50 p.m. Monday.
Deputies report he was operating a southbound car on County Road 21 near Township Road 78 when he went off the right side of the road, overcorrected, and then slid across the road and off the left side, coming to rest in a cornfield.
The driver was wearing his seat belt, and damage was moderate to the car.
