Heartland of Bellefontaine residents John and Velva Godwin have learned a lot from each other during their 62 years of marriage, and one of their shared passions provided the inspiration for a Friday art show.

Many paintings and drawings created by Mrs. Godwin, 87, and miniature wooden items and gourd art fashioned by her 92-year-old husband have graced the hallways and residents’ rooms since the couple moved to the 221 N. School St. nursing and rehabilitation facility about two years ago.
However, Heartland of Bellefontaine officials said they had to pull a few strings for the couple to agree to be the focus of the special activity for Friday afternoon — the Godwin Gallery Hop.
“We had to do a little convincing for them to agree to this,” activities director Michele Jones said with a laugh. “They enjoy sharing their talents with us, but are very humble and don’t tend to want to be the center of attention.”
“I might have hid in my room if I’d known all of these people were going to show up,” Mr. Godwin said jokingly.
