COLUMBUS — A bruised Bellefontaine team was unable to hold up against a punishing Columbus South rushing attack here Friday night in a first-round playoff game.
The Bulldogs, led by 240-pound junior running back Tyreese Ford and senior quarterback Ronmel Robinson, pulled away from a 14-12 halftime lead to oust the Chiefs 44-18 in a Division III, Region 11 contest.
Bellefontaine, which has been hampered by injuries all season, saw three more starters go down after last week’s game and it had several more go in and out Friday with nagging health issues.
South (3-1) took advantage, churning out 414 yards on the ground.
“I thought our kids played with tremendous effort and energy,” said BHS head coach Jason Brown. “We were right in the game at halftime, but they started to wear us down with their size. They put together longer drives on us in the second half.
“We had so many younger kids playing tonight and they were going against older, bigger and stronger guys. Our kids battled like crazy, but we just wore down.”
