Chiefs fall short in OT
SPRINGFIELD — Bellefontaine showcased its grit by pushing host Shawnee into overtime, but the Chiefs were unable to overcome some sloppy stretches in a 13-6 overtime loss.
Knotted at 6-6 with Bellefontaine at the end of regulation, Shawnee went on offense to start the overtime period and put the ball in the end zone on a 4-yard Max Guyer touchdown run.
Bellefontaine was unable to put points on the board on its ensuing overtime possession.
After a 6-yard pass from Ethan Moore to Jaeden Campbell and then a pair of short runs, the Chiefs faced a 4th-and-2 at the 12-yard line.
A quarterback keeper was stuffed at the line of scrimmage as the Braves held on for the win.
“You can’t fault our kids’ effort,” said Bellefontaine head coach Jason Brown. “They left it all on the field tonight. We just didn’t play well enough in all three phases. We didn’t play complimentary football.”
