Hillclimbers can’t cool off Lakers
It was a happy homecoming night for Indian Lake on Friday as the Lakers jumped out to a 34-0 halftime lead en route to a 48-21 victory over Urbana in Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division football action.
Indian Lake improves to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the CBC. Urbana drops to 1-6, 1-1.
The Lakers’ offense stayed hot with 484 yards. The Lakers piled up 336 yards on the ground and added 148 through the air.
Chiefs succumb to Shawnee 28-14
The Bellefontaine Chieftains made a game of their Homecoming contest versus Springfield Shawnee, but ultimately their mistakes were too big to overcome as they fell 28-14 in a Central Buckeye Conference Kenton Trail division game.
“We just made too many mistakes to win the ballgame,” said BHS head coach Jason Brown. “In places in the game we played really, really hard and got ourselves back into the game. But we hurt ourselves too many times, and as we work toward becoming a championship football team, those kinds of mistakes need to be eliminated.”
Pirates keep Cavaliers winless with 44-14 rout
It was a complete performance for Riverside’s football team Friday night as the Pirates thumped host Lehman Catholic 44-14 in a Three Rivers Conference game.
The Pirates are now 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the TRC. Lehman remains winless at 0-7, 0-4.
Riverside was balanced offensively, rushing for 216 yards and passing for 235 yards.
The Pirates’ defense limited the Cavaliers to 209 total yards.
“We really wanted to get our passing game going and they did a good job early trying to stuff the run, so that gave us a great opportunity to put the ball in the air,” said Riverside head coach Bryce Hodge. “Myles (Platfoot) made some good throws, the offensive line did a good job protecting him and our receivers made some plays.
“I was proud of our defense, too. That is two good performances in a row from our defense.”
West Jefferson rallies to avoid Tigers’ upset bid
West Liberty-Salem had state-ranked West Jefferson on the ropes in the first half Friday night, but the Tigers were unable to land the knockout blow.
The visiting Roughriders rallied from a 28-13 deficit to hand WL-S a 42-28 defeat in an Ohio Heritage Conference North division football game.
The Tigers fall to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the OHC. West Jefferson remains unbeaten at 7-0, 2-0.
North Union runs past Raiders 35-7
Visiting North Union ran for 396 yards to beat Benjamin Logan 35-7 in a Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division football game Friday night.
The Raiders are now 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the CBC. North Union improves to 6-1, 2-0.
All of North Union’s offensive yards came on the ground. The Wildcats did not complete a pass on their six attempts.
The Raiders managed only 131 total yards.
