He enjoyed coon hunting and had many coon dogs and bird dogs over the years but most other times he could be found in his shop in the garage, tinkering with or fixing something for someone else or lying in his recliner with his faithful dog, Midge.
On June 4, 1949, in Greenup, Ky., he married his wife of more than 67 years, Roberta “Sue” Farrington and she survives in West Mansfield. Also surviving are his children, Danny Carpenter, Donald (Janie) Carpenter, Diane (Jerry) Hobart, Denise (Jim) Beech and Dean Carpenter, all of West Mansfield; grandchildren, Minnie Pound, Ann Elliot, Craig, Chad and Cole Carpenter, Jayme Cummins, Jacob and Jeremy Hobart, Katrise Rhoads, Kodrey Beech and Levi and Holli Carpenter; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Bernice Ganson of Huntsville and Marie Murdock of Lakeview; brothers, Richard (Kathy) Carpenter and Ronald (Nancy) Carpenter, both of West Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
