Steven J. Zirkle, 60, of 14624 County Road 87, Lakeview, was charged with felonious assault after deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to an incident at his address about 8:55 a.m. Friday.
Deputies responded to an active domestic violence complaint, with Zirkle’s live-in girlfriend reporting that he was upset and being violent, throwing items around the house and damaging the front door.
His girlfriend contacted law enforcement in her vehicle and while she was on the phone with dispatchers, Zirkle allegedly threw nails behind her vehicle to prevent her from leaving. She was able to remove most of the nails so that she could leave and park down the road until deputies arrived.
When deputies arrived, they said Zirkle was pacing in the front yard and that his arm was bleeding. He declined EMS treatment and claimed that his girlfriend had injured him with a pair of tin snips. He also said the nails in the driveway had “fallen out of his truck.”
His girlfriend told deputies that when she tried to leave the home, the defendant had thrown the pair of tin snips toward her head. However, she did not sustain any injuries. She said she believed he had scratched his own arm while throwing items around the house.
He was placed under arrest and was transported in the Logan County Jail. Possible charges of domestic violence and unlawful restraint have also been forwarded to the Logan County Prosecutor for a review.
