In addition to paying tribute to the Zanesfield area gunnery sergeant who was killed in action in Afghnistan on July 13, 2009, the eighth annual Gunnery Sgt. David S. Spicer Memorial Ride will also pay homage to Staff Sgt. Dennis Hansen, Sgt. Jeremy Hodge, Lance Cpl. Kevin Smith and Staff Sgt. Sonny Zimmerman, all of whom were killed in action while serving in the armed forces in recent conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The ride begins at noon, Saturday, July 14, at the American Legion Harold Kerr Post 173, 120 Colton Ave., Bellefontaine. All street legal vehicles are welcome to participate in the ride, which concludes at the legion at 5 p.m.
During the meal that follows the ride, at approximately 5:30 p.m., there will be an Honor and Remember flag presentation for the families of the veterans. The national organization Honor and Remember has provided red flags with a large gold star, eternal flame and the names and dates of death of the veteran to present to the surviving family members.
Registration for the ride is $20 per person and begins at 10 a.m. the day of the event. For more information, contact Lockwood at (937) 599-4281.
