Riverside’s boys basketball team couldn’t find a spark Saturday as host Fairlawn took an early lead and rolled to a 66-43 non-league victory.
The loss drops the Pirates to 1-9 on the season.
“We just didn’t show up ready to play and that showed in the first half,” said RHS head coach Seth Bodenmiller. “Fairlawn jumped on us early and we couldn’t recover from that.”
Fairlawn jumped out to a 16-8 lead after the opening quarter and outscored Riverside 24-10 in the second quarter. That built the Jets a 40-18 halftime cushion.
The Jets continued to pull away in the third quarter with a 13-8 run. That extended their lead to a 53-26 score. Riverside cut into the lead with a 17-13 effort in the fourth quarter, but failed to get any closer.
John Zumberger led the Pirates’ efforts with 15 points, Wade Auflick had 11 points and Kaden Burk added seven points with five rebounds.
There was no junior varsity game.
Riverside travels to Miami East on Saturday for a non-league game.
