MARYSVILLE — Elmer R. Hoffer, 77, of Urbana, was cited by Union County Sheriff’s deputies for failure to maintain reasonable control of his vehicle after the bed of a dump truck he was operating at 8:47 a.m. Thursday on westbound U.S. Route 33 became wedged under the Beecher Gamble Road overpass.
It was torn off the truck. Debris from the bridge heavily damaged a car following behind. Hoffer sustained minor injuries and was transported to Memorial Hospital by the Jerome Township Fire Department.
The westbound lanes of U.S. Route 33 as well as Beecher Gamble Road were closed until Ohio Department of Transporation and Union County Engineer’s Office inspectors completed their investigation of the overpass and the roadway about 2:15 p.m.
