Multiple drugs and drug paraphernalia were recovered from a traffic stop executed around 9:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 26, by officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department along west Sandusky Avenue near Springhill Street.
Giovanni Ruiu, 29, of Sidney, and Marlon Robinson, 41, of Sidney, were lodged in the Logan County Jail following the traffic stop. Robinson was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Ruiu.
Officers on patrol observed a vehicle driven by Ruiu make an improper turn from Pratt Street onto west Sandusky Avenue. The vehicle then accelerated quickly from the center lane of travel.
Officers caught up with the vehicle and initiated the stop.
Upon making contact with the driver Ruiu, and the passenger, Robinson, police reported Ruiu was extremely nervous and shaking and did not have a valid driver’s license. Police also learned both men had prior drug arrests.
K9 Boodik was deployed to conduct an open air sniff of the vehicle and hit on the driver’s side of the car. A probable cause search revealed two hypodermic needles. A search of Ruiu revealed additional syringes, as well as baggies of suspected cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin.
Robinson was lodged in jail on a parole violation. Ruiu was charged with possession of drugs and possession of drug abuse instruments.
