Austin J. Neeley, 22, of Belle Center, was transported by private vehicle to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of non-incapacitating injuries sustained in a three-vehicle crash about 1:20 p.m. Sunday.
Deputies report Neeley was operating a northbound car on U.S. Route 68 in the area of east Township Road 219 approaching the railroad crossing. Neeley’s vehicle reportedly struck a northbound car operated by Steven Haycox, 57, of Edison, that was stopped in front of him in traffic. The impact sent the Haycox car into a northbound pickup operated by Robert Cummins, 61, of DeGraff.
Each of the drivers was checked at the scene by Bellefontaine Fire and EMS, but no other transports were reported. Damage was heavy to the two cars and moderate to the pickup.
The drivers were wearing their seat belts. Neeley was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead.
