Driver Douangpracha Vongsavath, 44, and his passenger, Kany Somphanthabansouk, 45, both of Columbus, each was arrested on felony charges during a traffic stop about 10:15 p.m. Sunday, where methamphetamine and a loaded handgun were recovered.
Officers of the Washington Township Police Department report Vongsavath was arrested for having weapons under disability, receiving stolen property, possession of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. His passenger was charged with a felony count of drug possession and also possession of drug paraphernalia.
While on patrol in the area of U.S. Route 33 and Township Road 94, officers spotted a vehicle swerving on the roadway and initiated the stop.
Upon making contact with the driver and passenger, officers noticed the smell of alcohol coming from the vehicle. The driver admitted to drinking in the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle was conducted.
Officers located a loaded 9-mm handgun on the driver, which they determined was stolen out of Columbus. Officers continued the search of the vehicle and found methamphetamine and a meth pipe.
Both defendants were logged in the Logan County Jail.
