Jeremiah Thiel, 41, of Kenton, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to a traffic stop about 9:30 p.m. Friday.
Deputies on patrol in the area of State Route 273 and County Road 97 observed his vehicle make several marked lanes violations. The traffic stop was initiated as the vehicle entered Belle Center at Buckeye Street near Vine Street.
Deputies observed the passengers in the rear of the vehicle were frantically moving around and heard the sound of glass bottles hitting each other.
The driver, Thiel, displayed signs of intoxication, and he told deputies that they had been drinking in Bellefontaine and Huntsville and were on their way home to Kenton.
The two passengers, Roberta Pees, 47, and Rhonda Thiel, 47, both of Kenton, admitted there were open containers of alcohol in the vehicle. Each was issued a summons for open container in a motor vehicle.
Deputies continued speaking with the driver, who refused to take field sobriety tests. He was transported to the Logan County Jail, where he also refused to take a breath test. Deputies noted that he had two previous OVI convictions in 2009 and 1998.
The defendant was released to a sober party and also was cited for a marked lanes violation.
