Dr. Calvin T. “C.T.” Richardson, 91, of Bellefontaine, passed away Monday, June 6, 2016, at Logan Acres Senior Community.
He was born Aug. 23, 1924, in Bridgeport, Conn., to the late Dr. Gerald A. and Lena T. Richardson. His family moved to Mt. Dora, Fla., in 1930 and lived there until he graduated from Mt. Dora High School in 1942.
He studied at the University of Pennsylvania and earned his doctorate of osteopathic medicine degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1947. After completing an internship at Doctors Hospital in Columbus, he worked as a physician in several locations in central Ohio, including Mechanicsburg, Rushsylvania and Bellefontaine. He served as the Logan County Jail physician and the Logan County Coroner, retiring from medicine in 2001.
While working in private practice, he assisted several local surgeons throughout the area, and also delivered hundreds of babies. He enjoyed tennis, golf, traveling with his wife, Norma, Big Band music, and spending time with his family.
At the age of 50, he learned to ride motorcycles, and traveled to the Badlands with groups from Bellefontaine. He was a member of Grace Shepard Church, as well as numerous professional medical associations.
C.T. was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Norma; his first son, David Arthur; his sister, Geraldine Hamlin and brother-in-law, Alan Hamlin; stepson, Kent Tullis; stepdaughter-in-law, Jennifer Penhorwood; and stepson-in-law, Mike Ricketts.
C.T. is survived by his two sons, David L. (Nancy) Richardson of Middleburg Heights and John Richardson of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two granddaughters, Alison Richardson and Emily (Matt) Baber; seven stepchildren, Douglas (Rosemary) Penhorwood, Roxanne (Rick) Steinke, Vicky Ricketts, Sonya Banta, Richard Penhorwood, Lisa (Jim) Boren and Judy Tullis; and many stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pastor Walt Mansfield officiates a funeral at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at Jennings Farley Funeral Home & Crematory, 5591 S. U.S. Route 68, West Liberty, with visitation two hours prior. Private burial is in Bellefontaine Cemetery.
