Don Edgar DeHaven, 88, of Findlay, and a former long-time resident of the Indian Lake area, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, Sept. 1, 2018, at Bridge Hospice Care Center at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay. Don moved to Primrose Retirement Community in Findlay during July following the death of Eunice Marie DeHaven, his wife of 70 years.
Don was born Jan. 30, 1930, in Findlay, to the late Harold and Hulda DeHaven. On Dec. 5, 1948, he married Eunice Marie Ropp in Kenton and she passed away June 8, 2018, at their home on Indian Lake. Surviving are their daughter, Dawn (Carey Michael) Palmer of Findlay; two grandsons, Dr. Ryan (Michaelle) Palmer of Dublin and Sean (Morgan) Palmer of Findlay; and four great-grandchildren.
Don was a graduate of Hardin Northern High School, and early in his life, worked as a telegraph operator for the New York Central Railroad and then served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Don attended the Toledo Barber College and worked as a barber for 43 years. He was the owner of Don’s Barber Shop in Findlay until 1997, when he retired.
Don was also a Realtor in Findlay and owned numerous apartments for many years that occupied most of his free time, until retirement. Don and Eunice spent the last 20 years of their lives wintering in Bradenton, Fla., and enjoying summer at their home on Indian Lake.
A private family service has been planned for both Don and Eunie, as they had wished. Arrangements are in care of Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview. Condolences may be expressed at shoffstalfuneralhome.com.
