Crews from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) have begun removing debris from the banks at Indian Lake State Park following the devastation caused by the March 14 tornado.
The aftermath of the storm has left the park and its surrounding areas strewn with debris, posing hazards both in the water and on land.
Indian Lake State Park, a popular recreational spot, has been closed to the public as the cleanup efforts commence. Boat ramps remain closed, and it is expected to be weeks before they can be reopened to the public.
The tornado wreaked havoc on the landscape, leaving behind a trail of destruction. In response, ODNR crews, in collaboration with statewide construction teams and neighboring parks, have begun the arduous task of pulling debris from the lake’s channels and off its banks.
While the cleanup progresses, authorities urge residents and visitors to avoid boating in the water, emphasizing the presence of numerous unseen hazards. Safety remains a top priority, and reopening the park will only occur once ODNR’s cleanup efforts are complete and the area is deemed safe for public access.
