David Michael “Mike” Thomas Sr., 73, of Springfield, passed away at 10:10 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2016, at Springfield Regional Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 17, 1942, in Springfield, a son of James W. and Norma M. Entler Thomas, and was raised in Springfield.
After graduating from Springfield South High School, he joined the U. S. Navy in 1961 and he proudly served for four years. He worked at International Harvester (Navistar) for 30 years before he retired.
He was a free spirited man who lived life to the fullest and who loved traveling in the states and abroad. He will be greatly missed by the ones he knew and left behind.
David is survived by one son, David M. (Rhonda Chamberlain) Thomas Jr. of Belle Center; one daughter, Donna (Bob) Biddle of DeGraff; five grandchildren, Felysha, Alan, Erica, Kayla and Morgan; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, John P. (Barb) Thomas of Knoxville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Steve Thomas.
Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Jones-Kenney-Zechman Funeral Home, Springfield. Inurnment is at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Rose Hill Burial Park.
