Daniel Allan Charles, 71, passed away in Nashville, Tenn., Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021.
Dan was born in Springfield on Dec. 27, 1949. He grew up in the Indian Lake area and graduated from Indian Lake High School. He also earned credits at The Ohio State University. He moved to Nashville, Tennessee in the early 1980s. Dan was married twice.
While he spent most of his work career with American Airlines as an airport ramp agent, Dan’s true avocation was music. Dan played guitar and sang in high school, and later as a professional musician for Symbiosis. He was a talented songwriter with a tender voice. After Symbiosis, he played live music in Nashville restaurants and bars from the early 1980s on.
Kind, compassionate, quietly spiritual, Dan cared little for material possessions. His life was given meaning and structure through music and his love and caring for others. What he had was yours for the asking, save for his Buckeyes shirt and his Browns cap.
Dan is survived by his brothers David, Greg, and Tim Charles, his sister Rachel O’Bryan, his stepmother Rita Charles, his former wife Marilyn Bute, his stepchildren Karen Bute, Sydney Bute, and Malissa Waithe, and his step-grandchildren Jazmine Waithe, Jshaelynn Bush, and DeAndre Bell Jr., as well as a host of other family and friends.
Per his living request, Dan was cremated Jan. 11, 2021. A memorial will follow at a later, appropriate date. Information about this future memorial can be obtained by text to David Charles at (480) 278-0073.
God’s blessings to you, Dan. We know you flow with that eternal river, as you always have, with love and peace on your way.
