James Martin Weeks, Jr. “Jim” of Lakeland, Fla,, died peacefully in his home on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021.
Jim was born in Bellefontaine, to James and Mellzena Weeks on Aug. 12, 1937. He graduated from Ohio University where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity, and where he met his future wife of 60 years, Suzanne (Susie, Sue).
Upon graduation, he served as a commissioned officer in the US Army before being employed by The Brach’s Candy Company, which placed him in Lakeland, Fla. After promotions required his moves throughout the Southeastern US, he decided to return to his beloved Lakeland in 1972 where he became President of Ray Durdin Leasing. In 1984, he founded Avon Equipment Leasing, Inc. where he served as President until his retirement.
Jim was an active member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church, past member of The Lakeland Rotary Club, past president of Lakeland Boys Club, past Commodore of Lakeland Yacht and Country Club and was a member of Lone Palm Golf Club and of Smyrna Yacht Club. Jim had a very active lifestyle, enjoying fly fi shing, hunting, boating, tennis, golf and anything else he could do outdoors with his vast number of close friends. Jim and Sue divided their time between their homes in Lakeland, Abaco, Bahamas, and New Smyrna Beach, Fla.
In addition to Sue, he is survived by his son Julian/J. J. Weeks (Stacey), of Lakeland, daughter Zena Hoskins (Jack), of Tampa, and four grandchildren, Clay, Walker, Miller and Jackson.
