50 years of ILHS, hit song celebrated Saturday

There are, quite literally, dozens of bodies of water dotting the United States landscape of various sizes and depths bearing the name Indian Lake.
But only one such lake really matters, according to the famous family band that put the Indian Lake name on the map 50 years ago this year.
The Cowsills return Saturday to Logan County with a performance at Indian Lake High School, in celebration of the golden anniversary of ILHS, as well as to mark 50 years since the release of the band’s famous song of the same name.
“Indian Lake is very important us, and it is the best Indian Lake in the country,” Bob Cowsill said in a telephone interview ahead of the band’s local performance Saturday.
“The Indian Lake there in Ohio has it down pat,” he said. “It’s one of the most incredible places in the world.”
The Cowsills band rose to prominence in the mid-to-late 1960s, an eight-member family band that featured a power pop sound blended with rich harmonies.
Famous singles included The Rain, The Park & Other Things; Hair; We Can Fly; and, Indian Lake.
“We’re bringing history with us to the show,” Bob said. “It’s so cool that the Indian Lake song has been around as long as (the high school.)
“It really is a nice marriage,” he went on. “To have a hit song adopted by a lake in a state that we lived in, it really is a special thing.”
