A ceremony to dedicate the replica of the historic “first concrete street in America” is being planned for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 12.
A test strip in the 100 block of south Main Street was paved in 1891 and after this test was considered a success, the city had all four streets around the Logan County Courthouse paved with concrete in 1893. Court Avenue remains as a testament to the work in 1893.
In May, a project partially funded by the American Concrete Paving Association, was completed that creates a replica of that original 1891 test strip along the west side of south Main Street. That portion will be dedicated during the upcoming event.
