A reporting party in a landlord-tenant altercation was arrested for assault and an outstanding out-of-county warrant following an exchange that occurred Thursday afternoon in rural Bellefontaine.
Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded about 5:15 p.m. to an address 1444 1/2 S. Ludlow Road on a report of a fight between a tenant and her landlord.
Diana Rausch, 23, of 1444 1⁄2 S. Ludlow Road, told deputies that she and her landlord, William Raney, 75, of 1444 Ludlow Road, had been arguing for several weeks over a canine on the property, late rent and Mr. Raney allegedly entering his tenant’s residence while she wasn’t there.
As the two yelled at each other, Thad Pierce, 29, of 151 N. Dean St., reportedly came outside from Ms. Rausch’s apartment and intervened.
He reportedly was grabbed by the throat by Raney and pushed the landlord to the ground in self-defense.
However, investigation by deputies revealed no signs of struggle about Pierce’s neck or throat area, but did observe indicators that suggested Mr. Raney had been punched in the face.
Deputies also found that Pierce had an outstanding arrest warrant from Hardin County.
He was charged with assault and lodged in Logan County Jail.
Deputies also forwarded the case to Bellefontaine Municipal Court for a review of potential charges against Raney.
