Dunk tank wind-up
Recently retired Bellefontaine Police Department Sgt. Allen Shields takes a seat at the dunk tank chair Saturday, preparing for a cool dip at the BPD’s 10th annual Community Safety Event at Southview Park. Along with the fun, the dunk tank was accepting donations for the local DARE program. (EXAMINER PHOTO | MANDY LOEHR)
Mounted unit greetings
Horses from the Columbus Division of Police’s Mounted Unit receive lots of attention and gentle pats Saturday from children and families in attendance at the Community Safety Event at Southview Park. A wide variety of local, state and federal agencies, such as the Drug Enforcement Agency, FBI and Bureau of Criminal Investigation, attended the 10th annual celebration of safety services and hands-on activities, hosted by the Bellefontaine Police Department. A passing afternoon storm toward the conclusion of the three-hour event ended activities just slightly early. (EXAMINER PHOTO | MANDY LOEHR)
A safe landing for scores of candy
Area children race to pick up candy Saturday that was tossed from an airplane overhead at the Bellefontaine Police Department’s 10th annual Community Safety Event at Southview Park. The planned helicopter drop off of candy was unable to take place because of the weather conditions, so pilot Steve Buchenroth stepped up to fly a plane from the Bellefontaine Regional Airport to the site for the first-time candy drop.
