Benjamin Logan Middle School eighth-grader Holly Coaty correctly spelled “shocked” to become the school spelling bee champion Friday, Dec. 9.
Thirty-nine students in grades 5-8 competed in the spelling bee hosted in the STREAM Center.
Seventh-grader Autumn Cline was runner-up. Eighth-grader Caitlyn Kirkpatrick went head to head with Autumn, but came in third.
Both Holly and Autumn have qualified for the Logan County Spelling Bee at the Holland Theatre at 6 p.m. Jan. 17.
Holly, a daughter of Jeff and Christy Coaty, will also take an online spelling and vocabulary test in January to advance toward the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Autumn is the daughter of Clark and Jaclyn Cline.
Sally Stolly was the moderator at BLMS bee. Susan Headings and Deepika Scheiderer were the judges.
