A Bellefontaine teen who claimed he was confronted last week by a clown with a gun has been charged with making false alarms and falsification.

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department filed the charges against Drew Nye, 18, of 421 Kent Drive, Apt. 3, on Saturday after investigating the teen’s Tuesday night complaint.
He claimed he was walking his dog around 9:25 p.m. when someone dressed as a clown was standing between two apartments. An air-powered pistol resembling a Colt 1911 was recovered at the scene.
On Friday, a woman reported her grandchildren left a similar pistol near air conditioners. She identified the pistol as belonging to her grandchildren.
Officers confronted Mr. Nye and he continued to maintain it was dropped by a clown. An alleged witness who supported the original complaint recanted and said the suspect made up the story.
Officers gave the suspect one more chance to admit he lied but he continued to maintain the toy pistol was dropped by a clown.
He was arrested and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
