Clifton “Butch” Sower, 58, of West Liberty, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton from injuries sustained in a bicycle accident.
Butch was born Dec. 4 1959, in Painesville, and was the son of the late Maynard Sower and Roberta Sower, who survives, along with sisters, Bernadette (Daniel) Blue of Marana, Ariz., and Ann (Jason) Vogel of West Liberty; nieces and nephew Alexis Blue, Matt Vogel and Meghan Vogel; aunts, Connie Cannon and Barbara (James) O’Leary; uncles, Mike Corrigan and Joe (Carole) Corrigan; good friend, Scott Boyd; several cousins and his Big Orange Cross Country teammates.
Butch also was preceded in death by his grandparents, RV and Frances Corrigan and Paul and Dorothy Sower; cousin Michael “Tyke” Corrigan; friend, Corey Frost; and adopted grandson, Anthony Traylor.
A 1978 graduate of West Liberty-Salem High School, Butch was a member of state champion Big Orange Cross Country teams in 1976 and 1977 and earned All-Ohio honors in both cross country and track and field. In 2013, he was inducted into the West Liberty-Salem Athletic Hall of Fame.
Butch was a carpenter who prided himself in his work and was most recently employed by Landon Lee Construction. He was an avid runner and cyclist who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
With his generous heart and infectious personality, Butch made friends wherever he went. He gave his final gift as an organ donor. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at Jennings Farley & Seeley Funeral Home & Crematory, 5591 S. U.S. Route 68, West Liberty, where visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14.
