Clayton E. “Robin” Benton V, 88, formerly of Bellefontaine and Middletown, Pa., passed away peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020, at Colonial Park Care Center in Harrisburg, Pa.
Born at home Saturday, Feb. 13, 1932, in Bellefontaine, he was the son of the late Lloyd E. Benton and Thelma (Ellis) Benton.
He is survived by a sister, Rita Benton Coyer of Bellefontaine; two sisters-in-law, Joanne Benton of Springfield, wife of deceased brother Vernon E., and Shirley Benton of Freemont, wife of deceased Wilbur E.; nieces and nephews, children of Wilbur and Shirley Benton: Dan Benton of Cincinnati, Mike Benton of Freemont; children of Ellen E. Benton McGee and Ernest McGee: Edwin McGee, Theresa McGee Mee of DeGraff; son of Jack E. Benton: Jack Jr. Benton of Ada; children of Vernon and Joanne Benton: John Benton of Chicago; Steve Benton of Cable, Rick Benton, Susan Vanz and Michelle Wheeler of Springfield; and children of Rita Benton Coyer and the late Marion L. Coyer: Joseph Benton of Lompoc, Calif.
In addition to his parents and brothers, Vernon and Wilbur, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Benton; a sister, Ellen (Benton) McGee; and a niece and nephew, Mary Benton Menningen, formerly of Tiffin, and Douglas McGee, formerly of Bellefontaine.
Clayton was a veteran proudly serving with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
An amazing artist, Clayton spent time after his retirement from PennDot exhibiting his work and could often be seen doing pen and inks with a quill pen. One of the founders of Pineford Community Players, Clayton was instrumental in the production of this small community theater in Middletown.
The family would like to thank the staff and administration of Colonial Park Care Center in Harrisburg for the wonderful treatment they provided Clayton for the several years he was in their care.
Private services will be conducted at the convenience of the family.
Fager-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory of Middletown, Pa., handled arrangements of cremation.
