Clarence E. “Jake” Jacobs, 80, of Lakeview, passed away Friday morning, Aug. 26, 2016, at his home.
He was born Aug. 8, 1936, in Mt. Gilead, to the late Lester and Florence Rodgers Jacobs. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Nikki Lynn Shoe; a sister, Sharon Mummey; and three brothers, Leonard, Frank and Ralph.
On Aug. 17, 1956, he married the former Carol Ann “Annie” Reed in Liberty, Ind., and she survives along with three daughters, Darlene (Steve) Shoe, Cheryl (David) Lyons and Lisa (Wes) Legge, all of Bellefontaine; a son, Lester “Jakie” Jacobs of Lake Alford, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Randy, Jacob, Cody, Nicklaus, Josh, Devin, Dylan, Jamie and Caleb; two great-grandchildren, Kaylin and Blake; a sister, Donna Eaton of Ft. Myers, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Jake was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from Ford Engine Plant in Lima after 31 years. Jake was one of the original founders and was a life member of Doyle R. Miller AMVETS Post 39, where he worked in the past as cantina manager and held several positions, including past commander, trustee and state and district representative.
He was proud of his involvement in establishing AMVETS Day with the Cincinnati Reds. He was also a former member of FOE, Loyal Order of the Moose, BPOE and the VFW.
He was an avid fan of sports, especially the OSU Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds and Bengals, and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Rev. Karen Blackburn begins funeral services at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30 at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St, Lakeview, where visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday. Burial is in Huntsville Cemetery with military honors provided by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Indian Lake EMS District and Universal Home Health and Hospice Care.
