Bellefontaine senior standout Amy Fulmer earned two automatic state berths Friday at the Division II district meet held at Miami University in Oxford.
Fulmer was runner-up in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke, which gave the senior her fourth straight trip to the state meet.
“I am unbelievably proud of Amy having qualified for her fourth straight state meet is an incredible accomplishment,” said BHS head coach Sharon Lewis. “She never let the pressure of returning get to her and continued to do her best. Our Chieftain community should be so proud to have a true high school swimmer achieve such heights.”
The top two finishers in each event automatically qualify for state. The remaining swimmers have to wait for the times from the other districts to determine the other qualifiers. The Division II state meet is Thursday and Friday at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.
Fulmer, who will swim for Ohio State next season, finished second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.09 and was second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.22.
“Amy had an excellent night swimming with a season best in all of her events,” said Lewis. “She set a new school record in the 100 free and was one-tenth of a second from her personal best time in her 100 back. She still has goals and times she wants to achieve and is more than ready to meet those. I was very pleased with her performance.”
Bellefontaine had two relay teams place in the top six on Friday. The 200 medley relay of Fulmer, Sarah Starkey, Shelby Starkey and Abby Kite took fifth (1:52.18) and the 200 freestyle of Fulmer, Kite, Sarah Starkey and Shelby Starkey finished sixth (1:42.57).
