A quick-firing Sidney team was too talented to contain for Bellefontaine’s boys basketball team on Friday as the Yellow Jackets struck early and ran away with an 80-48 non-league win.
The loss keeps the Chieftains winless at 0-7, while the Yellow Jackets remain unbeaten at 7-0.
Points piled up for Sidney in the first half as the Yellow Jackets started off with a 21-10 lead after the opening quarter. Sidney increased its lead to a 41-26 score by halftime.
Bellefontaine was able to slow down the Yellow Jackets in the third quarter, but were still outscored 16-9. That extended Sidney’s lead to a 57-35 cushion. The Yellow Jackets cemented the win with a 23-13 scoring surge in the final quarter.
Nine different players scored for the Chiefs on Friday. Brett Belser led the way with 11 points, Declan Ashcraft had 10 points, while Simon Stolly, Jarrid Baughman and Maverick Calton each had five points.
In junior varsity action, Sidney dropped Bellefontaine 60-42. Dylan Breckler had 12 points and Robby Wildermuth had 10 points.
The freshman game saw Sidney beat Bellefontaine 57-40. Kaden Reames and Carter Snapp both had 12 points to spark the Chiefs.
Bellefontaine is off until Tuesday, Jan. 7 when it makes the short drive to Benjamin Logan for a local Central Buckeye Conference rivalry game.
