Charles Gary Sargent, 78, died unexpectedly on June 19, 2021. He was born on March 12, 1943 in Bellefontaine, Ohio. He was the only child of Iris Underwood and Garfield Sargent.
He served four years in the United States Marine Corps with a final ranking of Sergeant. His specialty title was Defense Message System Specialist. He received the following medals: Good Conduct, National Defense Service, Rifle Qualification Badge-Expert and the Pistol Qualification Badge.
After his service he studied engineering and accounting which led him to earning his MBA. His professional career started in Cincinnati, Ohio in sales for Ryerson Steel and ended in Michigan as CEO for Storch Magnetics Inc.
Most recently, he was elected Trustee for the township in which he lived. Chuck liked music, cooking, reading, boating, and gardening, but was always most proud of anything he built with his two hands. His last project was a beautiful 6 ft long red wood side table for his grill.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents listed above and wife of 29 years, Kathleen Dygert. He is survived by his two daughters: Kelli and Julie, his five grandchildren; Blake, Katie, Justin, Adam and Melanie, his sons- in- law; Jason and Jimmy, and his girlfriend Melinda.
A memorial service will be Saturday, July 17, at Potere-Modetz Funeral Home in Rochester, Michigan. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. and the service will follow at 1 p.m.
