Charles Franklin Dowell, 76, of Bellefontaine, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family Saturday afternoon, June 23, 2018, at Mayfair Village Retirement Community, Columbus.
He was born in Bellefontaine on July 15, 1941, to the late Henry Dowell and Gladys Byer Dowell.
He is survived by his son, Todd (Ellen) Dowell and their sons, Myles and Alex ,all of Upper Arlington; son, Eric Dowell of Maumee; daughter, Lynn Dowell (Tony) Myers and their children, Garrett Dunn and Henry and Brooks Myers, all of Bellefontaine; sister, Mary (Gene) Pope of DeGraff; sister-in-law, Betty Dowell of Bellefontaine; brother-in-law, Wes Plikerd of Lakeview; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia (Wes) Plikerd, and brothers, Richard (Betty) Dowell, and James Dowell.
Charles was a graduate of Bellefontaine High School and attended Wittenberg University. He was employed at Super Foods (Nash Finch) of Huntsville, Vita Plate of Port Clinton and Fire Safety Services of Huntsville. He was a 29-year veteran of the Huntsville Fire Department, as both an emergency medical technician and fireman, retiring Oct. 30, 2004. He enjoyed country and bluegrass music and antique cars.
Pastor Bryan Meadows officiates the funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, June 29, at Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, where visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 28. Burial is in the Bellefontaine Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the First Church of God, 1000 E. Brown Ave.
