Charles “Ox” Carson, 69, of Belle Center, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2018, at home surrounded by his loving family after a brave battle with leukemia.
He was born June 24, 1948, in Kenton to the late Carl and Eva Dughman Carson.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda (Shadley) Carson; daughters, Kari (David) DeLano of Ayersville and Kae Lynn (T.J.) Lyden of Belle Center; a stepson, Eric (Lindsay) Oldham of Kenton; and mother-in-law, Dorothy Shadley. He was the proud grandfather to Luke and Abe DeLano, Carson and Carter Lyden and Olivia Oldham. Also surviving are his loving and supportive siblings, Carl (Sonny) Carson of Grayson, Ky., John (Diane) Carson of Kenton, Peg (Bob) Cronley of Hilliard, Jean (Joe) Kearns of Kenton, Robert “Kit” (Linda) Carson of Kenton, Kathy Beair of Lakeview and Richard “Dick” (Bev) Carson of Kenton, sisters-in-law, Anita Carson of Mayberry and Gloria (Gary) Grappy of Kenton; and brother-in-law, Kim (Kate) Shadley of Peoria, Ill.
Proceeding him in death are his wife, Peggy (Schmidt) Carson; a brother, Edward Carson; and his father-in-law, Willis Shadley.
He loved being an uncle to his many nieces and nephews and they all agree that he was a wonderful uncle. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren at their many sporting events. He loved to golf, travel, and have fun with his many faithful friends.
He was a proud 1967 graduate of Belle Center High School, where he excelled playing football for his beloved Belle Center Eagles. He was employed at Northwood Stone and Asphalt/Shelley Company for 51 loyal years. He was an active member of Belle Center United Methodist Church. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. He was a member of the Kenton Elks Lodge 157 and the Kenton Moose Family Center 428 and was a Hardin County Shriner.
Although well known for his size, he was most loved for his generous spirit, and kind heart. He’ll be sadly missed by all who were lucky enough to have him in their lives.
Funeral services begin at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, at the Belle Center United Methodist Church with Pastor Kevin Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Belle Center Fairview Cemetery where full military rites will be performed by the Kenton AMVETS Post 1994 Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday March 12, at the Schindewolf Stout Crates Funeral Home, Kenton, and one hour prior to the funeral service Tuesday at the church.
