Sandy Burk, 33, and Shelby J. Kuhlenbeck, 32, both of 4231 County Road 35, each was charged with theft Monday after officers met with store security at Burkes Outlet, 2053 S. Main St.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department viewed surveillance video footage of Burk working as a cashier while Kuhlenbeck, her boyfriend, brought up merchandise to the register.
Images captured the couple kissing and Burk failing to scan several items on Dec. 22, according to officers. The items were valued at $125.
Burk also is accused of using other employees’ discounts to purchase three shirts and a wall decor item, failing to scan a fourth shirt and taking a pair of headphones returned to the store by a customer.
She was taken into custody at the store and lodged in the Logan County Jail while Kuhlenbeck met later with officers and was issued a summons.
• Shawn M. Scott, 48, of 500 Gunntown Road, Apt. D11, was charged Tuesday with disturbing the peace.
Officers were called to apartment complex at 3:35 a.m. after a neighbor complained she could not sleep due to loud music coming from Scott’s apartment.
The neighbor, who is undergoing chemotherapy, told officers the disturbances have been an ongoing issue since November and she is trying to relocate. She said she asked Scott to turn down the volume.
Officers made contact with Scott and were forced to repeat themselves multiple times as Scott could not hear them over the loud music.
Officers noted it was the sixth time the department has responded to Scott’s apartment since Nov. 2.
