Bellefontaine residents and motorists could see two paving programs this year as work is currently underway to complete projects covered in the 2017 budget, while the 2018 projects have yet to be bid.

City Engineer Tim Notestine said Shelly Co. was unable to pave the 11 targeted sections before weather turned too cold in 2017. But the contractor started grinding streets and alleys this week and will begin repaving yet this week as part of a $118,000 program.
Shelly Co. also has contracts with the Ohio Department of Transportation to handle several highway projects planned for the next two months.
With the support infrastructure in place, the company decided to go ahead with the leftover city work now.
Notestine said the 2017 list was shortened from normal years as the city had to pay for curbs, gutters and sidewalks along Madriver Street between Sandusky and Rush avenues as part of ODOT repaving part of State Route 47 in the city last year.
That work used up about half of the city’s typical paving funds.
