IL boys bounce Riverside 82-63
Indian Lake’s boys basketball team competed a Logan County week-long sweep on Saturday after rolling past host Riverside 82-63 in a non-league meeting.
The Lakers also beat Bellefontaine last Tuesday and Benjamin Logan on Friday.
The win marks the third straight for the Lakers, who move to 9-6 overall, while the Pirates drop to 3-12.
“It was a hot shooting weekend for us, offensively,” said IL head coach Zach Overturf. “Hopefully we can keep that momentum rolling to finish up the season.
“I thought Riverside played really well. They graduated a lot of kids last year and are finding their new identity. Their kids played really hard and they’re going to win a lot of games in the future. I was really impressed with their guard play. We threw length and ball pressure at them the whole game and they kept attacking.”
Indian Lake grabbed a 19-7 lead in the opening quarters. The Lakers were two points better (17-15) in the second quarter to build a 36-22 halftime lead.
Another scoring surge saw Indian Lake extend its lead to 23 points (61-38) after three quarters.
“I thought that we battled well for the whole game, but they just made a lot of shots,” said RHS head coach Seth Bodenmiller. “We knew that we would have to be at our best if we wanted to compete. We showed some moments of that, but you have to be able to do it for 32 minutes.”
Austin Parker fueled the Lakers with 27 points, Clay Jacobs tallied 12 points, Ethan Parker had 11 points and Chris LaRiva added eight points.
For the Pirates, John Zumberger carried the offense with 24 points, Walker Whitaker had nine points and Kaden Burk and Wade Auflick each had seven points.
Riverside took the junior varsity game 52-41. Landon Stewart paced the Pirates with 16 points and Walker Whitaker had 15 points. Kyle Faulder had 13 points for the Lakers.
Indian Lake hosts London on today for a Central Buckeye Conference game. Riverside is back on the court Friday at Elgin for Northwest Central Conference action.
