Lady Tigers hold off Panthers
West Liberty-Salem’s girls basketball team found itself in a battle Saturday with host Fairbanks, but the Tigers were able to pull out a 37-32 victory in Ohio Heritage Conference action.
The Tigers improve to 13-1 overall and are 11-0 in the league standings, while the Panthers slip to 6-8, 4-7.
WL-Salem held a 10-9 lead after the opening quarter, but Fairbanks took the second quarter 8-4. That left the Panthers on top 17-14 at halftime.
The Tigers responded in the third quarter with an 11-3 run, which gave them a 25-20 advantage. WL-Salem was able to keep Fairbanks in check during the final quarter to preserve the win.
Selena Weaver sparked the Tigers with a double-double, recording 12 points and 12 rebounds. Emily Hollar added 10 points and six steals and Gabby Williams tallied nine points.
In junior varsity action, WL-Salem edged Fairbanks 22-20. Delaney Wade and Aubrey Laing each had five points to lead the Tigers.
WL-Salem hosts Mechanicsburg today for an OHC makeup contest.

Lady Raiders grab key win over Wildcats
Benjamin Logan’s girls basketball team rallied in the fourth quarter to hand visiting North Union its first loss in the Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division Saturday with a 58-48 win.
The Raiders are now 6-8 overall and 4-2 in the CBC Mad River. The Wildcats slide to 10-6, 5-1.
A huge first quarter saw Ben Logan race ahead 28-4. North Union responded in the second quarter with a 21-3 run to cut the Raiders’ lead to six (31-25) at halftime.
The Wildcats continued to surge in the third quarter, outscoring the Raiders 16-7 to grab a 41-38 lead.
However, Ben Logan grabbed the momentum back in the final period with a 20-7 run to secure the victory.
Savannah Pavoni fueled the Raiders with 19 points, Lynzee Cronkleton scored 16 points and Peyton Derr added eight points.
In junior varsity action, Ben Logan battled past North Union 38-31. Rhea Harner led the Raiders with 10 points, while Cheyanne Peterson and Elliot Bailey each had seven points.
Ben Logan hosts London on Wednesday for another CBC contest.

Strong first half sends Lady Lakers past Warriors 36-20 in CBC meeting
Indian Lake’s girls basketball team held Northwestern to four points in the first half Saturday and the Lakers went on to take a 36-20 win in Central Buckeye Conference play.
The Lakers rise to 8-7 overall and 5-2 in the CBC Mad River division, while the Warriors fall to 4-11, 1-6.
Indian Lake outscored the Warriors 20-4 over the first two quarters.
The Lakers clipped Northwestern 10-9 in the third quarter to build a 30-13 advantage.
Kyleigh Huffer led the Lakers with 11 points, while Kristen Young and Kaylie Barlow each added eight points.
Northwestern won the junior varsity game 46-22. Kaitlyn Boburg led the Lakers with 10 points and Stephanie Altstaetter had eight points.
Indian Lake hosts Jonathan Alder on Wednesday for another CBC contest.

Lady Pirates get left behind by Railroaders, 55-28
Riverside’s girls basketball team got off to a slow start Saturday and saw host Bradford run away with a 55-28 non-league victory.
The loss brings the Pirates’ record to 7-8 on the season.
Bradford jumped ahead 18-9 after the opening quarter and went on a 13-4 run in the second quarter. That put the Railroaders ahead 31-13 at halftime.
The third quarter saw the Railroaders go on a 17-4 run to build a 48-17 lead.
Kirstin Schlumbohm led Riverside’s efforts with nine points, Olivia Perk had six points and Lauryn Sanford added five points.
In junior varsity action, Bradford defeated Riverside 30-15. Alaina Heath and Janessa Magato each had four points for the Pirates.
Riverside hosts Elgin on Thursday for Northwest Central Conference action.

Triad’s girls basketball team found itself struggling to stop a talented West Jefferson team on the road Saturday as the Roughriders dominated the second half for a 61-31 Ohio Heritage Conference win.
The Cardinals fall to 2-13 overall and 2-9 in the league, while the Roughriders move to 11-6, 7-4.
West Jeffersonled 12-11 after the opening quarter and 21-17 at halftime.
The Roughriders pulled away in the third quarter with a 19-12 run. That gave the host a 40-29 advantage. The Roughriders cemented the win in the fourth quarter with a 21-3 run.
Frani LeVan led the Cardinals with 14 points, five rebounds and three assists, Cati LeVan had nine points and Abby Walls had eight points with five rebounds.
Triad hosts Greenon on Thursday in Ohio Heritage Conference action.

Calvary Christian girls beat East Dayton Christian 54-42 for OVCC victory
Calvary Christian’s girls basketball team dropped East Dayton Christian 54-42 on Saturday in Ohio Valley Christian Conference.
The Spartans improve to 10-2 overall and 4-1 in the OVCC.
Calvary Christian started the game on a 16-0 run in the first quarter and led 32-14 at halftime. The Spartans never trailed in the second half to secure the win.
Elisha Carter led Calvary with 27 points, 10 rebounds and five steals, while Ruth Boy had 11 points and Marjorie Boy had eight points.
