Local cheese artisans recently earned statewide recognition at the Ohio State Fair.
Lemon Jewel Quark, produced by Blue Jacket Dairy, 1434 County Road 11, Bellefontaine, placed first in the “Soft and Spreadable Cheese” category at the 2018 Ohio State Fair cheese competition.
Lemon Jewel Quark is made from pasteurized whole cow’s milk, and fresh lemon zest and is also produced in garlic or plain flavors, according to information provided by Blue Jacket Dairy.
Self-described “avid Ohio history buffs” Jim and Angel King name their cheese from Ohio historical sites and famous people.
“The inspiration for the name Lemon Jewel was from ‘These Are My Jewels,’ the first monument placed on the grounds of the Ohio Statehouse,” according to information provided by Blue jacket Dairy.
