West Liberty-Salem’s state-ranked girls cross country team showcased why they are so highly touted Saturday by winning the Buck Creek Invitational in Springfield.
The Tiger girls, who are ranked fourth in the Division III state poll, won the 16-team meet with 43 points. New Albany came in second with 85, Dublin Scioto was third with 93 points, Tecumseh came in fourth with 133 points, Greenville took fifth with 158 points and Bellefontaine came in sixth with 169 points.
“There were so many gutsy performances from the Big Orange ladies top to bottom,” said WL-Salem head coach Ann Vogel. “They showed a lot of mental focus and determination, and I was pleased with the overall team effort. Buck Creek is always a competitive meet with several Division I schools and with the dry course and cooler temperatures, we had season or career best times from the entire team.”
