A behind-the-scenes Bellefontaine High School employee who is credited with providing excellent organizational prowess and demonstrating a caring attitude to other staff and students was brought into the spotlight Wednesday when she was surprised with an award that was voted upon by her peers.

Eight-year secretary Laurie Showalter was named the Bellefontaine City School District’s Classified Employee of the Year. She was called forward during a staff meeting on the district’s waiver day to receive her award and was greeted by a standing ovation from her peers at the Bellefontaine High School Distance Learning Center.
Roger Ely, executive director of administrative services, said all certified and classified employees had the opportunities to submit nominations for the award, and a committee reviewed the nominations to select the winner.
“We have many hard-working individuals in our district, but one individual kept coming to the top when we were reading through the nominations,” he said of Showalter.
