Betty L. Hurley, 94, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 3:55 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at her home. She was born in Ridgeway, Ohio on July 19, 1925 to the late Forest and Iona (Callahan) LeVally.
On July 26, 1942, Betty married Myron K. Hurley in Mt. Victory, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 2004. Betty was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jill Nussbaum in August 2013, and brothers Waldo and Donald LeVally. An infant grandson, Brett Keirn, was stillborn in 1970.
Betty is survived by a daughter, Rosanna (Alan) Keirn of Bellefontaine; a son-in-law Howard Nussbaum of Georgia; siblings Mary (Calvin) Deckard and Beatty Mouser; a sister-in-law Gerty LeVally; seven grandchildren, Heather (J) Keirn-Swanson, Holly (Todd) Hall, Laura (Brian) Keirn-McCreanor, David (Andrea) Keirn, John (Kelly) Keirn, Hanz (Tina) Nussbaum, and Heidi (Myke) Harbuck; 17 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; many nieces and nephews; and caregiver Deone Varian.
She was a homemaker and worked as a clerk for Merit Shoes, Woolworth’s and J.C. Penney during her daughters’ college years. She was an active member of the First Christian Church (Disciples) where she was an honorary lifetime deacon, served as president of the Pilot Class and Christian Women’s Fellowship. She taught the Beginners Class and later served as principal of the Primary department within the church.
She and Myron enjoyed traveling, fishing, and square dancing, as members of the See-Saw Dance Club.
Pastor Kevin Greenwald will preside over graveside services at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13, in Highland Memorial Cemetery in West Liberty.
