The Benjamin Logan High School STEM Club recently had its HockeyBots and a mini-Sumo survive the qualifying rounds to reach the semi-finals at the 30th annual National Robotics Challenge in Marion.
Despite saw blade damage inflicted by one opponent, the Combat Bot, deisgned by Christian Cooper, Brent Luttmer and Chase McKinney, won the high school division to earn the Gold award plaque.
Team members making other robots included Jessica Goff, Connor Hill, Matt Kavanagh, Cole Kennedy, Emily Weidman and Quinton Woodward.
The event included 1,100 participants from 65 schools in eight states and two countries.
A technical college in Armenia heard about the competition and sent a team with two large Sumo bots.
