Benjamin Logan’s boys soccer team solidified its first-place standing in the Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division with a 3-2 win over host Tecumseh.
The Raiders are now 9-3-1, matching the program’s highest win total since 2008. Their league record improves to 5-1-1.
Ben Logan jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a Kelvin Ong header off a cross by Caleb Epp.
However, the Arrows made a free kick with 2:30 left before halftime to knot the score at 1-1.
BL keeper Breshon Jacobs was hurt early in the second half and Tecumseh took advantage with a goal with 25 minutes left to take a 2-1 lead.
The Raiders’ Joseph Kopus drew a penalty on the Tecumseh keeper and Trey Allen converted the kick for a 2-2 tie.
With 11 minutes left, the Raiders scored the eventual game-winning goal when Epp found the back of the net for a 3-2 lead.
“Tonight was as tough a night as we’ve had all season,” said BL head coach Jamie Hughes. “We scored that early goal and it seemed like we were on our way and then the wheels kind of started to fall off. Tecumseh really stepped up and when they scored that goal just before halftime they had us on our heels a little bit.
“Then when senior center back Keaghan Stahler went down, goalkeeper Breshon Jacobs got knocked out, and they scored to go up on us 2-1, my assistant coach Chad Studebaker looked at me and said now we are really going to see what we are made of. What we saw was the grit and determination that makes this team special. Within three minutes we were awarded a penalty and when Trey stepped up and converted with 22 minutes left there was a different look in our eyes. There was going to be no stopping us and we were determined to go get the next goal. It wasn’t easy but what a great fight we put up. I’m super proud of this win and those guys earned it.”
Ben Logan is back in action Saturday morning at Springfield Shawnee.
